Paringin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The government of Balangan is collaborating with the district Executive Board (DPC) of the Indonesian Orchid Association (PAI) to carry on develop and conserve the local moon orchid.
"We are committed to continuing to preserve and cultivate local moon orchid plants, which are native to Halong and Tebing Tinggi sub-district," said Head of Food Security, Agriculture, and fisheries Agency Rahmadi here on Monday.
This, he said, was the effort of the agency together with DPC PAI to keep the Balangan native orchid plant from extinct.
"On this occasion, we provide orchid cultivation training for Women Farmers Group (KWT). Of course, it is very appropriate to develop the local orchid plants from Balangan," he said.
The one-day training focused on the care and maintenance of orchids.
"Through this training, we really hope that orchid will be more widely known among Balangan people and can provide knowledge and insight to women farmers groups in cultivating orchids," said Chairman of DPC PAI Balangan Sri Huriyati Hadi.
