Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Regent of Kotabaru, South Kalimantan Province, Muhammad Rusli stated that the Kotabaru Fisheries Office is developing the potential of vaname and tiger shrimp to be a model for farmers.
Rusli said that Kotabaru has a security food potential in fisheries sector, including shrimp which is a leading commodity.
"Food security is not only about rice and agricultural products, but also from fisheries sector. Shrimp is one of Kotabaru's leading commodities with extraordinary potential if managed properly,” he said here on Sunday ( May 19, 2025).

When reviewing the Kotabaru Fisheries Office's Fish Seed and Health Center (BBKI) land in Gedambaan Village, Pulau Laut Sigam Sub-district, he said the district government will provide stimulant to fish farmers to bolster the production of aquaculture.
This program is part of the Kotabaru Regent and Deputy Regent steps to encourage acceleration of development and empowerment of community's economy, as well as to encourage food security, especially in fisheries sector, which has a great potential in Kotabaru area.
He emphasized that this is also a form of seriousness of the district government in implementing programs, especially in fisheries sector.
“Food security begins from real action. I directly review the shrimp seeding process through the provision of good shrimp from the result of our own breeding seeds that can increase shrimp production in Kotabaru, so it is hoped that farmers and fishermen can be more prosperous,” said Rusli.
The Regent on that occasion also harvested vaname and tiger shrimp with partial harvest system. The aim was to reduce the existing biomass or density, so that shrimp in the pond can reach maximum numbers.
