Paringin, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Regent of Balangan Abdul Hadi said 19 universities in South Kalimantan are ready to accomodate his residents to study for free to support 1,000 undergraduate scholarship program.
"The 1,000 undergraduate scholarship program aims to provide relief for Balangan residents to pursue high education in Banjarmasin, Banjarbaru, HSU and Balangan," said the Regent here on Wednesday.
He stated that every resident who is a holder of Balangan Regency Identity Card (KTP) has the opportunity to receive scholarship to continue their education to bachelor degree.
According to him, the program is to produce Balangan superior human resources and have strong competitiveness.
Meanwhile, Head of Balangan Administration's People Welfare Hilmi Arifin expounded that the district cooperates with 19 universities in South Kalimantan to provide undergraduate education for free.
"We only provide single tuition free (UKT). The Balangan government will hand over the UKT directly to the campus, not through the students," he said.
To get the program, he continued, residents first register to the desired campus, the Balangan government requests data from the campus for the next process.
Based on data, Hilmi revealed, the Balangan government recorded that approximately 3,000 people have registered for the program, the majority of them registered in Balangan.
