Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Banjarmasin Legislative Council (DPRD) through Commission IV declared that they had conveyed the grievances of contract teachers to the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud).
According to Chairperson of the Commission IV Noorlatifah, the ministry paid attention to the feelings of contract teachers (guru honorer) in Banjarmasin through the commission who visited the ministry in Jakarta, last week.
"The outpouring of the hearts of teachers that we convey is, of course, related to welfare, especially facing the COVID-19 pandemic, it is getting harder for their economy," said Lala, her nickname, Friday.
As is known, she said, the wages of nonpermanent teachers in the city of Banjarmasin are relatively low, even though the increase has been approved in 2021, it is still far from the city minimum wages (UMK).
She revealed that the wages of nonpermanent teachers in the city is currently Rp1 million per month, the plan is to increase next year by Rp200 thousand, but only for those who are registered in public schools.
"Only about 1,500 nonpermanent teachers get such wages, how many are below that, especially those in private schools," she pointed out.
Therefore, Lala said, her party is trying to gather information for the Ministry of Education and Culture with the hope there will be additional welfare assistance from the state budget.
"The information exists, such as wages subsidy program for contract teachers from the ministry (Kemendikbud), even the assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic," said Lala.
According to her, the city government through the Education Agency must really be able to make these programs known to the nonpermanent teachers, until no one who entitled left behind.
