Batulicin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Residents of Pulau Burung Village in Tanah Bumbu District, South Kalimantan, together with the local environmental group conduct mangrove nursery to conserve mangrove forest.
Chief of Environment Lovers of Pulau Burung community group Harmawati here on Sunday (Jan 12, 2020) said, the group together with local residents have nursed 20 thousand of mangrove stems.
"Every month tens of thousands of mangrove seedling are taken from the nursery for reforestation in various places in Tanah Bumbu and its surroundings," she said.
The critical condition of most of mangrove forests in South Kalimantan has been a concern of the environmental group and became their reason to carry out conservation movement.
She claimed to invite people to save mangrove forests in the province by continuing to plant mangrove seedlings.
"It estimated about 70 percent of 116.824 hectare of mangrove forest in South Kalimantan are in damage condition. The fact is of concern to us, and there is no other way except to keep replanting mangrove," she pointed out.

The mangrove nursery in Pulau Burung Village is facilitated by PT Batulicin Enam Sembilan through the company's social responsibility program.
CEO of PT Maming 69 and PT Batulicin 69 Mardani H. Maming remarked that preserving mangrove forest is a concrete action of the company in its effort to conserve the environment.
"The South Kalimantan coastal area must be saved with the thriving of mangrove. Mangrove trees have enormous benefits to prevent coastal abrasion," said the former two period Regent of Tanah Bumbu.

The man, who is now the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (Hipmi) chairman, said the effort to encourge people in preserving mangrove is to realize eco-tourism in coastal villages.
"Thus it will improve the welfare of local people through the development of environmentally friendly sustainable tourism," he pointed out.
