Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Kotabaru District Military Command (Kodim) 1004 in collaboration with Gekraf (National Creatif Economy Movement) Kotabaru held a sea pandan (screwpine) weaving traing for members of Persit Kartika Chandra Kirana to develop local potential.
Chairperson of Persit Kartika Chandra Kirana Branch XXVII of Kodim 1004 Kotabaru Mrs Fini Cecep Cahyadi said it was the first such training with the hope that members would be able to apply the skill.
“With this sea pandan weaving training, I hope mothers (participants) can pass on their skills to Persit,” she said in Kotabaru, Wednesday.

In addition to enhancing creativity of Persit members, she wanted this will develop existing local potential
“Our future plan is for Persit and Gekraf Kotabaru to collaborate on training in creative village,” she said.
Gekraf Kotabaru Chairman Muhammad Basir said that collaboration with Persit is expected to encourage the local MSMEs to develop the local potential and improve the community's economy.
“We are collaborating with Persit to implement the same program in community empowerment. After this training, we move forward to creative village, to empower the local community and hopefully to support their economy,” he explained.

Gekraf has 17 creative economy subsectors, including architecture, game development, culinary, performing arts, fine arts, music, and product design .
Photography, animated film and video, visual communication design, advertising, televition and radio, interior design, fashion, publishing, application, and currently holding sea pandang weaving training which part of crafts subsector.
Persit members were enthusiastically taught the skill of sea pandang weaving into various crafts by Dewi, a member of Gekraf for craft subsector.
Screwpine or sea pandan were chosen, because they are considered to have a comparative advantage and are multi-purpose, both ecologically and economically.

Sea pandan weaving can be made into various products, bags, sandals, tissue holder, and others according to the craftman's creativity.
Sea pandan is a shrub plant that grow abundantly along the seaside.
This activitiy is expected to encourage creative and innovative works through local potential.
