Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Kotabaru Regent H Muhammad Rusli led the ceremony to commemorate PGRI's 80th anniversary and 2025 National Teachers’ Day at the south Kalimantan Provincial level, hosted by the district.
The Regent expressed his pride in the significant role of the Indonesian Teachers' Association (PGRI) in educating the nation.
“I am personally alumni of PGRI school. I have experienced firsthand the values of struggle, discipline, and dedication instilled by the teachers. Today, I can see PGRI becoming more solid, more advanced, and continuing to make a real contribution to the nation,” he remrked in Kotabaru, as reported on Tuesday.

He emphasized that teachers are the main pillar of human resources development and frontline in realizing Golden Indonesia 2045.
The PGRI's 80th anniversary and Teachers Day commemoration carry the theme: “Quality Teachers, Advanced Indonesia, Together with PGRI Realizing Golden Indonesia.” This reflected the commitment of PGRI in improving the quality of teachers and the main foundation for the advance of the nation.
The Regent presented awards to teachers and education figures and symbolically handed over waste transportation vehicles to three villages in Kotabaru.

The ceremony was attended by hundreds of participants, including ASN or civil servants, teachers, PGRI, school students, TNI and Polri, as well as community organization.
The ASN wore KORPRI uniforms, teachers attired PGRI uniforms, and organizations displayed their respective attributes.
A brief history of PGRI reviewed the long journey of Indonesian teachers' struggles, from the founding of the Dutch East Indies Teachers' Association (PGHB) in 1912 to the founding of PGRI on November 25, 1945, in Surakarta, as a teacher union to defend independence and advance national education.
