Amuntai, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - The North Hulu Sungai (HSU) Public Works Agency build settlement roads using ironwood construction after attrition due to a quite heavy flow of Tabalong river.
"Ulin (ironwood) footbridge with a length of 210 meters and 1.90 meters width built using local budget funds worth Rp395 million to facilitate Paliwara community activities on the river banks," said HSU Regent H Abdul Wahid via press release on Tuesday.
Paliwara community leaders, Ilhamsyah, representing local residents, expressed joy over local government concern by building an ironwood footbridge.
Residential street, Ilham told, has twice built with siring (embankment) or breakwater, but always eroded by quite heavy river flows.
In addition to facilitate activities and transportation, ironwood construction footbridge is also one of the attractions of water for the local community.
Ilham admitted, local government also plans to build siring with steel construction along the 800 meters in the Village of Paliwara.
HSU Regents explained, steel bridge construction project realization possibilities in the next three years, because there are many issues that must be resolved first, such as land compensation.
For the time being, he said, government build ironwood footbridge first. However, the government will continue to help make embankment inside of the ironwood bridge directly opposite the residential area in order to prevent from possible landslides (attrition).
To the river bank in other areas in the district those also prone to landslides, like Tangga Ulin village is likely to be built another ulin footbridge anyway.
