Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - PLN South and Central Kalimantan Main Distribution Unit (UID Kalselteng) had deployed 71 joint personnel from Muara Teweh Customer Service Unit (ULP) and Technical Service Team to secure electricity when floods hit Barito Utara (Barut) District, Central Kalimantan.
General Manager of PLN South and Central Kalimantan Ahmad Syauki when confirmed here on Monday said all personnel were deployed directly to the field to secure electricity infrastructure affected by the flood.
It was a preventive action to prevent danger from electrical current that could treaten public safety during flooding, he said.
The high intensity of rain in the upstream area in the past week had caused water level to rise along Barito River.
The condition triggered flooding that inundated several areas in Barito Utara, especially in Teweh Tengah, Teweh Timur, Lahei, and Lahei Barat sub-districts.

Syauki emphasized that public safety is the main priority in handling electricity during natural disaster such as floods.
“Electric current cannot be seen with naked eyes but has a major impact during floods such as short circuits, Therefore, our officers immediately conducted checks flood affected locations. If a risk is found, the electricity will be turned off temporarily to ensure safety of residents,” he said.
In addition to affected areas, PLN team also secured areas that potentially surmerged. This action is important to prevent unwanted incidents due to leakage current or short circuits.
“We prioritize public safety from electrical hazards, so the affected areas must have their electricity cut off first. We also ensure that the infrastructure security process is carried out quickly and precisely so that residents do not face hidden threats due to electricity during the floods,” he added.
PLN kept on monitoring the development of flood directly in the field. Actively coordinate with related parties such as Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) to assure that handling and recovery step step were carried out quickly, precisely and accurately.
“Our officers consistently coordinate with related agencies, such as BPBD, to monitor flood condition. This is important, so that electricity can be restored as quick as possible once the situation is safe,” Syauki expounded.
As a form of preparedness for potential follow-up floding, PLN appealed to the public to remain vigilant and immediately report any disruptions or dangerous electrical condition via the PLN 123 Contact Center or PLN Mobile app.
