Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Kotabaru Regent Sayed appreciated the Kotabaru Naval Base for holding a traditional boat race event in Rampa Berkah to celebrate its 27th anniversary.
"This is an effort to preserve rowing culture and sport," said Sayed Jafar as he with Chairwoman of Kotabaru Family Welfare Empowerment (PKK) Fatma Idiana attending and flagged off the race, Saturday.
The Regent said that this activity could revive and develop rowing sport and highlighting local wisdom so that cultural heritage remains intact.
"We give our appreciation to the Commander of Kotabaru Naval Base for holding this traditional boat race," he said.

Sayed Jafar said that the traditional boat race was not only to celebrate the Kotabaru Naval Base anniversary, but also attracts tourists to enjoy marine tourism to Rampa Berkah Village.
"I hope this activity will further grow our love for rowing sport," he said.
The Kotabaru Naval Base Commander Marine Lt. col. (P) Hapsoro said that the traditional boat race was to mark the 27th anniversary of the Naval Base as well as to support the development of Kotabaru District, especially in marine tourism.
"Because we are Navy, we are very focused on maritime affairs, therefore we are holding rowing competition which is the first event with the hope that it can be held regularly, and this is one of our manifestation of supporting the regional government programs, especiallypromoting marine tourism," said Hapsoro.
The race was attended by 35 participants competing for attractive prizes. One boat was filled with a rowing team of 7 people.
Garuda Team won 1st place by winning coaching money of IDR8,000,000, 2nd winner Pancar Laut Team received IDR5,000,000, 3rd place Zilo Team IDR3,000,000 and 4th place Berkat Do'a Team IDR2,000,000. The prizes were handed over by Kotabaru Regent accomanied by Kotabaru Naval Base Commander.
