Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of Kotabaru DPRD Mukhni Af appreciated the Kotabaru Naval Base for designating Lontar Selatan Village in Pulau Laut Barat Sub-district as a new Kampung Bahari Nusantara or Nusantara Maritime Village in the district.
"I hopes Kampung Bahari Nusantara can be a place for educating local residents," said Mukhni in Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, Wednesday.
Last May, Regent of Kotabaru Sayed Jafar had inaugurated Nusantara Maritime Village in Sarang Tiung Village, Pulau Laut Sigam Sub-district.
Nusantara Maritime Village is a program of the Indonesian Navy to improve people's welfare in the fields of health, education, tourism, economy, and defense.

Mukhni said that the presence of maritime village in coastal area is to bring about the local village in terms of economy and education in line with Indonesian Navy's goal of transforming the economy of maritime communities.
Especially this program is to develop coastal area with the aim of educating the communities and as a form of building resilience.
"We welcome and support it for the progress of the local community," he pointed out.
Mukhni also expected that the maritime village will explore the potential of the village to be developed in accordance with the Navy's mandate to strengthen economic defence, to improve the quality of human resources, and to strengthen political and legal stability.
