Kotabaru, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The District Government of Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, under the leadership of Regent Muhammad Rusli and Deputy Regent Syairi Mukhlis winning a national achievement the 2026 Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Award in Madya category.
Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar emphasized that achieving UHC by the regional government is a crucial pillar in alleviating poverty and improving the quality of life.
“Next year, those who win Madya must be Utama. If you're now in Utama category, there is no other way but to focus on improving health services," he remarked at the ceremony in Jakarta, as repored here on Wednesday.
He also hopes that no regional government where the National Health Insurance (JKN) membership or UHC coverage declines. It must continue to increase.
The UHC award was handed over by the Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Dr. HC. Drs. H. Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar to the Kotabaru Regional Secretary Eka Saprudin at the Ballroom of JIEXPO Kemayoran, Jakarta Pusat.
Universal Health Coverage is a health insurance program aims to ensure that all people have equittable, affordable, and sustainble access to health services, with no cost constraints.
The program covers JKN membership, participants activity level, and completeness premium payment by the local government.
The prestigious award was presented to the Koabaru District Government as a a token of appreciation for it strong commitment to ensuring comprehensive access to healthcare services for all level of society.
This award is also align with the Kotabaru's health vision and mission which focus on creating a healthier, more independent, and more productive society through improving service quality, equalizing access, and strengthening promotive-preventive program.
A total of 31 provincial governments and 397 regency and city administrations, including Kotabaru, received awards at the 2026 Universal Health Coverage Awards for their contributions to supporting public health protection policies through the JKN program.
In addition to the award certificate, the Kotabaru also received a trophy as a symbol of its achievement.
The Kotabaru Secretary stated that Kotabaru's success is inseparable from the collaboration between various parties, and this should serve as a driving force for the local government to strive for a higher level.
