Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Banjarmasin Water Resources and Drainage Agency deployed two ships to repel the invasion of garbage comes from upstream Martapura River.
"We try to dispel the maximum amount of waste that comes from upstream. Two vessels were deployed assisted by ship from the provincial Transportation Agency," said Head of Water Resources and Drainage Agency Ir Muryanta in City Hall on Thursday.
Tens of tons of garbage washed down the river in Banjarmasin every day. Not only in the form of water hyacinth, but also rods, sticks, bamboo make them difficult to remove.
"For three days large trash coming to the river. This is due to heavy rains upstream, so that the swift currents bringing them downstream," said Muryanta.
With the existing fleet expected that garbage not to cover the surface of the river to disrupt traffic flow.
Muryanta also hoped the provincial government in the handling of the issue and urged other districts in the upstream as well handling them, because of Martapura River belongs to all regions.
"Because this issue has become an annual problem. We are located at the end of the river invariably subjected to this garbage heap," he said.
The Worse is garbage heap under the bridge, namely in the Pasar Lama Bridge, Dewi Bridge and Pangeran Antasari Bridge.
"So we keep guarding these three bridges, not to letto garbage pile-up there. Like last year due to the thick garbage river transport clogged could not get through," he said.
