Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Pretty thick haze blanketing Syamsudin Noor Airport Banjarmasin in Banjarbaru postponed six scheduled flight.
"Six flights were delayed nearly two hours ahead of schedule," said General Manager of PT Angkasa Pura I Syamsudin Noor Airport Handy Heryudhitiawan in Banjarbaru Saturday.
Six flights delayed namely three Lion Air flights, one scheduled to depart for Jakarta at 06:05, 06:30 to Surabaya and 06:40 to Yogyakarta.
Three other delayed flights were from Garuda Indonesia to Jakarta at 6:20 and 07.30, and to Surabaya at 07:55.
"Visibility below the normal limit, so we asked the pilot did not fly the plane for the safety of passengers and flight," he said.
He said the information received from the Meteorological Station in the airport area that visibility at 06.00 only about 300 meters away from the normal distance of 800 meters.
Then, at 07.00 visibility in the airport area up to the runway decreased to 200 meters so that the six flights were delayed.
"At 08.00 visibility increased to 700 meters and continues to climb up to 2,000 meters at 09.00, and the plane can fly at 08.15," he said.
He said the flight delays due to the thick smog that enveloped the airport area has three times occurred during August and early September.
