Banjarbaru, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Provincial Government of South Kalimantan together with all components of society is carrying out a simultaneous planting one million trees drive in all 13 districts and cities.
Acting Governor Safrizal ZA said this forest and land rehabilitation is expected to reduce the critical land area in the province.
At the kick-off of the event centered at the reservoir area of Guntung Damar, Landasan Ulin, Banjarbaru, Safrizal said as many as one million tree seedlings are prepared for free to be planted by the community and related parties.
"We will keep on planting and monitoring as long as there are still identified critical lands," he pointed out, Friday.
"To help implement this program, Director-General of Forest Rehabilitation Watershed Management (PDASRH) will support the provision of 1.8 million seedlings to be distributed for free during 2021," he said.
Director-General of PDASRH Helmi Basalamah said the Ministry of Environment and Forestry is ready to support the provision of free seedlings.
However, he said, if residents ask or take it must be clear what trees they ask and where to plant them, so it is easy to monitor.
"Thus the maintenance after planting is really well monitored," he said.
In this Green Revolution program, the provincial government is targeting to plant on 32 thousand hectares of critical land.
