Banjarbaru, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - The South Kalimantan Forest Agency will immediately evacuate 35 proboscis monkeys trapped in residential areas and their conditions are now of concern.
Head of the Forestry Agency Hanif Faisol Nurofiq in Banjarbaru said Monday that 20 of the bekantan were now in front of the Muarabahan Public Works office, Barito Kuala.
Their condition is very alarming, so in these weeks, all animals will be immediately evacuated.
According to Hanif, his party will immediately send a proboscis monkey taming team until all the long-nosed animals can be sent immediately to the prepared location.
In addition to Muarabahan, as many as 15 bekantan are now in the Sungai Taib area, Kotabaru. At present, they are developing quite rapidly, but the location does not allow proboscis monkeys to develop and live better.
The South Kalimantan Forest Agency has designated Bekantan Island in the Sultan Adam Public Forest Park as a breeding ground for the proboscis monkey.
The Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) team has reviewed the location of the planned release site of all the proboscis monkeys, and the location was declared very feasible to become a new place for the protected animals.
