Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - High waves since Thursday (29/3) in the Java Sea caused the traditional cargo ship (pelra) from Kalimas Port Surabaya to the Port of Martapura Baru Banjarmasin and vice versa could not go to sea.
Iwan, a boat captain from Surabaya on Saturday, informed that his ship had not been able to leave for Banjarmasin due to high waves in the Java Sea.
Other phinisi from Banjarmasin have not been able to sail for Kumai to transport cement. They delayed the voyage.
"I was forced to stay at the port here because the weather conditions are not good," said KLM Madani skipper.
A cargo ship company's agent H Bandu Daeng Manase said since the last few months, extreme weather is frequent, so the vessels were forced to delay the voyage to wait for the conditions to subside.
"Sometimes a week of good weather, suddenly a week later the weather was getting worse, the weather is often uncertain," he said.
According to Bandu, since the existence of cement industry in South Kalimantan, Pelra which previously had suspended after the collapse of wood industry, now began to rise again.
Within one month, he added, 8 to 10 Pelra ships come to the Port of Martapura Baru, Trisakti Banjarmasin.
"It was different in a few years ago, maybe in several months there was no ship coming," he told.
The growth of industry in South Kalimantan, he added, is now making the traditional transportation back to rise.
"Usually ships coming from East Java carrying various staples for the people of South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan, when returning will carry cement," he said.
