Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman II of the Kotabaru Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) M Arif revealed about the needs of a special rice variety that is resistant to high acidity for Pulau Laut Timur Sub-district.
"They have rain-fed rice field and there are rice fields that have high acid levels," he said in Kotabaru, Monday (July 22, 2024).
Arif acknowledged that the Kotabaru regional government had made a lot of innovations and he proposed the government, especially the Kotabaru Food Security and Agriculture Agency (DKPP) to consider a research on agricultural land in Pulau Laut Timur.

"The acidity level over there is quite high and there is tidal rice field," he said.
The lawmaker asked the DKPP to study rice varieties that are resistant to types of high acid contents.
Considering this condition, Arif said, there needs to be varieties that are suitable for high acidity levels and tidal rice fields.
He hopes the district government to maximize the agricultural potential from two to three harvests a year in Pulau Laut Timur.
He also asked DKPP to maximize agricultural facilities in Pulau Laut Timur.
