Rantau, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The regency government of Tapin, South Kalimantan, is designing up and down stream industry in agriculture with the aim to build sustainable people's economy by involving millennials.
Regional Secretary of Tapin Sufiansyah said that the district will develop agribusiness, which is considered to be one of strategic issues, to build up and down stream agriculture industry.
"This is our long term agenda for the future, we will build an educational and reasearch center for agricultural production in Tapin," he said in here, Wednesday.
Sufiansyah said that in the future leading commodities in Tapin will diverse, in horticulture, fisheries, and livestock.
"Still in the planning stage, there will be the develoment and research area for plantation, husbandry, and fisheries," he expounded.

Sufiansyah pointed out that it is very possible to develop agricultural sector in Tapin Regency considering its fertile natural potential and still a lot of unused land that can be developed.
"By building a research, education and development center it is hoped that agricultural production would increase even more," he said.
Sufiansyah said that this effort will be accompanied by developing competent human resources in agricultural sector.
"We hope that young people will be interested in agricultural sector," he said.
The secretary added that the direction of Tapin's development in agricultural sector is a response to the issue that coal industry will decline in the future.
"It is true that currently what supports Tapin's economy the most is coal, but we can't hope for that. The reserves become smaller as time goes on, plus there are policies in several countries that prohibit coal export. It is clear that in the future this will an impact on the economy in Tapin District," he explained.
