Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Banjarmasin City Government plans to provide Rp1 billion to encourage snakehead fish (known in this area as haruan) farmers in 2016.
"We have been proposing Rp1 billion funds in 2016 budget for the haruan fish plant development program ," said Head of Banjarmasin Agriculture and Fisheries Agency of Doyo Pudjadi while in the assembly building on Friday.
According to him, assistance to groups of haruan fish farmers in this area is very important to surviving haruan cultivation. "Because we wish, successful haruan entrepreneurs will emerge in this area till the community's economy can be increased," he said.
Doyo said, now scattered as many as ten groups of haruan fish farmers in this area, with each group of 10 people. So great expectations they became the largest producer of haruan fish.
"Haruan fish is very popular in our area that the population needs to be maintained through cultivatation," said Doyo.
According to him, the target haruan fish harvest next year as much as 30 tons is expected to be achieved, so that it can drive the local economy and contribute to local revenues significantly.
