Barabai, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry (KKP) has declared Mahang Baru Village, Labuan Amas Selatan Sub-district, in Central Hulu Sungai (HST) as Kampung Haruan (snakehead fish village), one of 130 villages in Indonesia designated as aquaculture villages in 2021.
"Of 130 villages from 128 districts and cities in Indonesia, only HST and HSS in South Kalimantan are designated as Kampung Haruan," said Head of HST Food Security and Fisheries Agency H M Yuserani in Barabai, Thursday (January 13, 2022).
HST's Kampung Haruan has actually been initiated since 2019 and at that time it only had 11 ponds.
"Then in 2021 we receive an assistance of 38 ponds for two fish cultivation groups (pokdakan), Mina Karya Polantan and Mekar Jaya of Mahang Baru Village through the Regional Insentive Fund (DID)," he said.
As it has been declared as Kampung Haruan (Haruan Village), Yusrani said, in 2021 KKP through the Center for Freshwater Fisheries Cultivation (BPBAT) Mandiangin, South Kalimanta, provided an assistance of revitalization pond for haruan fish hatchery.
"The revitalization pond is a form of facilities and infrastructure for the People's Hatchery Unit (UPR) and Household Scale Hatchery (HSRT) for Pokdakan Mufakat Mahang Baru village," he said.
It is complete and centralized, starting from the main pond, spawning pond, and natural feed pond.

"The Pokdakans have also been trained intensively on haruan fish cultivation in order to obtain Good fish Breeding Practice (CPIB) and how to process haruan fish to have a higher economic value, namely making shredded and albumin which is urrently much need in the pharmaceutcal world," he said.
Haruan fish in Kalimantan has a high economic value and become on of the indicators of inflation.
"The regional government, especially HST regent is very supportive and committed to developing Haruan Village, because it becomes a national characteristic of districts in Indonesia," he said.
