"When harvesting the lotus flowers, farmers can simultaneously clean the wild plant of a giant shy daughter," said Acting Head of HSU Agriculture Agency Yuli Hertawan in Amuntai, Thursday.
He said, farmers are often lazy to clean the wild plants which they called 'susupan gunung', because the stem and roots are quite hard and spread fast enough to shroud the agriculture land.
However, by cultivating Nelumbo Nusifera on the agricultural land, farmers can harvest all at once clearing the land from the wild Mimosa Pigra.
This technique has been used by farmers group in Pondok Babaris Village, Sungai Pandan Sub-district, Alabio. The result was their agricultural land has the least of the giant shy daughter plants.
The lotus flower, Yuli said, produces seeds that can be processed into flour named 'talipuk' which is often used to make local typical cakes, such as cincin, pais, dodol and others.
Yuli said, the giant shy daughter plants are mostly found on agricultural land in Danau Panggang and Babirik Sub-district, popularly known as Alabio polder area.
