Banjarmasin, S Kalimatan (ANTARA) - Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq assured that three districts in South Kalimantan Province have shown positive changes and improved their waste management.
“Good waste management helps solve national waste problems,” he said after visiting Sekumpul Waste Bank in Martapura, Banjar District, Wednesday.
The Environment Minister had also visited three waste final disposal sites in South Kalimantan, namely Tebing Liring in Hulu Sungai Utara (HSU), Hatiwin in Tapin, and Cahaya Kencana in Banjar District.
“We reminded again that we do not hesitate to regulate waste management practices through open dumping. I have seen firsthand that these three districts have changed compared to my previous visit,” he pointed out.

Among the three districts, Environment Minister highlighted the more massive waste management implemented by Banjar District. It applied a pattern of two waste management have been carried out in developed countries.
The district of Banjar applied waste collecting at the place and source, including households, hotels, restaurants, schools, and others. It also implements collecting system, by means of people coming to bring waste.
The Minister asserted that waste problem is not a joke, what has been directed by the center must be done by the region.
“It's like required everyone to wear helmet when driving. If not, they will be ticketed. Likewise the problem of waste, if no stern warning is given, there will be no improvement,” he said.
The Minister hopes all district and cities are able to manage waste well, changing culture by not being careless in handling waste. If you dump waste, you must first think about the negative and positive impacts.
“I will strictly monitor all waste management in South Kalimantan, especially since I came from this region. No exception for other provinces, I also give the same attention,” said Minister of Environment.
