Amuntai, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Waste production in the North Hulu Sungai (HSU) Regency continues to increase every year making the Housing, Settlement and Environmental Agency (Disperkim LH) empowers 145 existing waste banks.
Head of Waste Management and Capacity Building Division of the agency Najeriansyah in Amuntai on Saturday said the amount of waste entering and processed in the Tabing Liring Landfill until the end of 2019 reached 55.10 tons per day, whereas in early 2019 the number was around 45 tons.
"The capacity of waste transported to landfill increases with the increase in service and fleet of garbage transportation," said Najeri.
He said, the Tabing Liring in North Amuntai had an area of seven hectares, part of it was used for office buildings, warehouses, and so on.
Tiring Tabing Liring is the only landfill site for waste disposal in the District of HSU. To expand the landfill is constrained by limited land, considering the HSU area is dominated by swamps of around 89 percent.
Fortunately at the end of 2019 Tebing Liring landfill received an excavator from the Ministry of Public Work and Public Housing (PUPR) completing the existing two heavy equipment.
Previously in 2018, the District Government of HSU also received assistance from the ministry in the form of a sludge treatment plant worth Rp6.5 billion.
"At least with the increase in heavy equipment in the landfill will speed up waste processing," he said.

Najeri said, all this time garbage has not been fully processed in the landfill, there are some household waste and similar rubbish that is not brought to the landfill. Because some of it has been processed at the garbage bank units.
The HSU Government has launched that each village has a waste bank. Disperkim LH follows up its circular No. 660/130/DisperkimLH/2019 dated March 4, 2019 by 'picking up the ball' to the villages to immediately form the management of the village unit's waste bank and provide technical guidance and socialization about the operations of the garbage bank.
