The South Kalimantan Environment Agency through the facilitation of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) in collaboration with the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) has built an installation for the utilization of B3 lubricant waste.
Head of the agency Hanifah Dwi Nirwana here on Friday saidthe construction of the installation around the Banjarbakula regional waste disposal in Gunung Kupang, Banjarbaru, is an important and strategic step to solve the problem of B3 waste of used lubricants.
South Kalimantan, one of the largest national coal-producing, has a very large potential of B3 waste has not been managed optimally, so far.
"You can imagine, with so many coal companies that use heavy equipments, how many hundreds of thousands of tons of used lubricant B3 waste is produced every year," she said.
The installation for the utilazation of used lubricant B3 waste, she said, would change mindset that this waste has economic value all at once solving the problem of ecology.
It will also reduce the earth's burden and reducing transportation cost that no more need to send used lubricants to Java, it is enough to process it in South Kalimantan.

After being processed, used lubricants can be reused for alternative fuel, such as high speed diesel (HSD) for heavy equipment, engine boats (kelotok), agricultural equipments and others.
Currently, the agency team has discovered the right formula, both in term of oil and several reference parameters as alternative fuel, so it is ready to be develped into an industry for the used lubricant B3 waste on a larger scale.
"Our homework is adjusting the thickness, which has not yet been appropriate," she said.
Now, Hanifah added, the installation is in the trial phase, while waiting for the issuance of business permits from the Ministry of LHK.
When the permits are issued, the production capacity will soon be increased from a built capacity of 10 tons/month to 100 tons/month, so it is hoped that operations will no longer depend on the provincial budget (APBD), even it become a source of income for the region.
