Marabahan, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Vice Regent of Barito Kuala (Batola) H Rahmadian Noor together with farmers in Karya Maju Village, Marabahan Subdistrict, harvested hybrid corn on a 10 hectares land.
"This harvesting produced 9.9 tons of dry corn harvest per hectare or 5.9 tons of dried milled corn per hectare," said Acting Secretary of Batola Agriculture Agency M Arsyad in Marabahan, Wednesday (11/7).
According to him, the success is certainly giving happiness to farmers, although for achievement is still far from the target.
He said in 2018 Batola gets the target of corn planting area of 2,590 hectares, which only about 448 hectares or 17 percent realized.
The constraints are limited land types B and C or suitable land for maize cultivation and uneven interest of farmers in utilizing rice fields for corn cultivation after their harvest in dry season.
In addition to corn, he explained, Batola also has a big enough target for the development of soybean cultivation through intercropping pattern.
In 2018, he said, Batola is expected to support the soybean self-sufficiency program so that Indonesia is no longer importing corn and soybeans.
Vice Regent H Rahmadian Noor expects farmers support and awareness in promoting agriculture, including corn and soybeans.
He said, various programs have been done by the government to encourage farmers. For the cultivation of corn the central government provides 15 kg of seeds and 50 kg of fertilizer per hectare.
