Barabai, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Central Hulu Sungai (HST) government intensifies and focuses on improving the development of the fisheries sector, particularly the cultivation of freshwater fishes of climbing perch (locally known as pepuyu).
Head of Fisheries Division of HST Food and Fisheries Resilience Agency Adriani Razak on Wednesday (16/5) in Barabai said the center of pepuyu cultivation is now located in Binjai Pirua Village, North Labuan Amas Subdistrict (LAU).
The seriousness of HST in the cultivation of papuyu fish, according to him, is evidenced by cooperation with Bank Indonesia (BI) since last few years.
"Alhamdulillah the fish farming group (Pokdakan) Harapan Maju in Binjai Pirua Village has successfully harvested the premiere of pepuyu clusters with Acting Regent H A Chairansyah yesterday," he said.
In the past six months BI has provided 2,000 seedlings for 23 members of the Harapan Maju Farmer Group in Binjai Pirua.
"They were previously also guided and given direction not only how to cultivate fish, but also educate for business development and processing of fish," said Adriani.
Thanks to the diligence and seriousness of the fish farmers they finally now make the ponds of fish culture as a tourist attraction of fishing which have also been provided with the lodge and other facilities.
The village of Binjai Pirua is also a pilot village in the development of pepuyu fish to be developed as a business field to advance the fishermen and the surrounding community.
