Barabai, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - As many as 6,340 residents are being affected by floods for the last two days in three sub-districts in Hulu Sungai Tengah (HST) District, South Kalimantan Province.
Head of HST Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Ahmad Apandi on Thursday night came down to the location together with tens of the agency's personnel, government apparatus, and volunteers.
"A total of 6,340 people affected by the flood are spread in three sub-districts, Barabai, Pandawan, and Batu Benawa,” said Apandi.

The three affected sub-districts, he continued, included 13 villages/urban villages with a total 2,210 houses, 21 worship places, 12 schools, five offices, and two traditional markets were inaundated.
“We go out tonight to the field to anticipate if it rains again. There are two villages that are anticipated if water discharge increasing, because their status are now submerged by about half a meter, they are Jaranih and Masiran villages,” he pointed out.
The flood, he said, have even spread to the main roads in the center of the Barabai, HST capital, thus the agency intensively going to the field to provide help or evacuation to people who were experiencing difficulties.
Apandi asured that all the BPBD equipments, such as rubber boats and others, are ready to use to evacuate residents if situation become more emergency due to high rainfall.
“We are still monitoring the floods on location. All facilities and infrastructure are ready to evacuate residents if situation getting worse,” said Apandi.
