Banjarmasin, S Kalimatan (ANTARA) - A 2023 Special Olympics World Summer Games (SOWSG) athlete from South Kalimantan Arsyad Al Banjari won a gold medal from swimming in Berlin, Germany.
“Arsyad emerged as the fastest in butterfly and outformed his closest competitiors from Italy and Iran,” Sport culture Division of the South Kalimantan Youth and Sport Office (Dispora) Budiono noted in written statement in Banjarmasin, Wednesday.
Budiono said Arsyad took part in butterfly and breaststroke swimming competition.
“Arsyad wins gold medal in the butterfly, and in breaststroke he bags bronze medal,” he said.
In butterfly stroke Arsyad was in 100 meter Level B category with a time of 1:23:28 or no more than oen and a half minutes.
While in the second was Italian athlete Simone Davide with a time of 1:39:66, then the third was Iranian athlete Mohammadi Shahou 1:52:75.
Budiono said Arsyad, who represented Indonesia, managed to perfor well by showing his best quality.

Arsyad also managed to bag satu a bronze medal in 100 meter Level A category.
“Arsyad managed to win two medals at the same time for Indonesia in swimming,” said Budiono.
SOIna Chairman of South Kalimantan Mulyono, who attended the match, said that Arsyad's struggle to win medals must be highly appreciated.
“Hopefully in other sports Indonesian athletes, especially South Kalimantan, will be able to increase medal tally,” he said.
