Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian contingent bagged a total of 13 gold, 14 silver, and 29 bronze medals at the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG) in Konya, Turkey,
With the final medal tally, Indonesia has then reached seventh place at the 5th ISG, improving its achievement compared to the previous ISG edition in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Indonesia secured medals in just 7 of the 13 sports that it participated in. Most of the medals -- 12 gold, 7 silver, and 10 bronze medals — were snatched by weightlifting athletes.
Meanwhile, archery athletes clinched 1 gold, 4 silver, and 1 bronze medals; cycling athletes 1 silver medal; swimming athletes snatched 2 silver and 12 bronze medals; athletics athletes bagged 2 bronze medals; karate athletes won 2 bronze medals; and kickboxing athletes secured 2 bronze medals.
Meanwhile, at the 4th ISG, Indonesia had secured eighth place with a total of 6 gold, 29 silver, and 23 bronze medals.
"These sports have been able to show their commitment to fostering the achievements (of the athletes) and presenting the highest achievements for Indonesia on the international (stage)," chairperson of the Indonesia Olympic Committee (KOI), Raja Sapta Oktohari, remarked.
He said he expected the results of the 5th ISG to be a stepping stone for the athletes to face the next multi-events, which include the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games, the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, and the 2023 ANOC World Beach Games in Bali, as well as the 2024 Paris Olympics

The Indonesian contingent for the 5th ISG consisted of 87 athletes who competed in archery, athletics, road bicycle racing, gymnastics, judo, karate, kickboxing, shooting, swimming, taekwondo, weightlifting, wrestling, as well as table tennis.
The multisport event was held from August 9–18, 2022, and was participated by 55 countries. There were 20 sports contested at the event.
In addition to the 13 sports participated by Indonesia, athletes at the event competed in 3x3 basketball, bocce, fencing, soccer, handball, volleyball, and traditional archery.
