Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The municipal government of Banjarmasin has programmed the night market Tungging and Malabar into tourist market.
Head of Market Management Agency Hermansyah said on Thursday Banjarmasin has 54 traditional markets, two of which, namely Tungging at Jalan Belitung and Malabar at Jalan Pangeran Antasari will be designed to be tourist market.
"We design Tungging market into a night market that could become a popular entertainment shopping trips," he said.
Tungging is a local language for lean down or bent over to represent the way people buying goods by leaning down to pick up and pay the items.
According to him, the Tungging market at Jalan Belitung now continue to be addressed by revitalizing total physical building to make it more alluring as the night excursions market.
Tungging market revitalization program has been carried out since this year with a budget allocation of Rp1.3 billion. "Next year (2016) continued with the draft budget of Rp2 billion," he explained.
According to him, the tourist market will be developed just like Malioboro in Yogyakarta. "If Yogyakarta famous with night market in Jalan Maliaboro. We also have to be modeled with two night market, Tungging and Malabar," he said.
