Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ulemas Council (MUI) offered its condolences to President Joko Widodo over the death of his mother, Sujiatmi Notomiharjo, on Wednesday.
"I, on behalf of MUI, herewith offer our deep condolences on the demise of Mr. President Jokowi's beloved mother," MUI Secretary General Anwar Abbas said in a written statement released on Wednesday.
Abbas also prayed that Allah SWT may accept her good deeds, forgive her sins, and get her into heaven.
Earlier, some circles, including the Indonesian Churches Association (PGI), had also expressed their condolences on the passing of the President's mother.
PGI Chairman Clergyman Gomar Gultom said the President's mother had made a significant contribution to the Indonesian nation because she had given birth to him, nurtured, and raised him until he became a state leader.
President Jokowi's mother, Sujiatmi Notomiharjo, breathed her last around 4:45 p.m. local time on Wednesday in her hometown Solo, Central Java Province. She was 77.
Born on February 15, 1943, Sujiatmi was married to Widjiatno Notomiharjo. They had four children. President Joko Widodo, their first child, was born in Solo, Central Java, on June 21, 1961.
President Jokowi landed in his hometown Solo at 5:52 p.m. local time on Wednesday and rushed to the mourning house to pay tribute to his mother.
