Tanjung, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - People from Karang Taruna (youth group) and fire brigade in Tanta Village, Tabalong District, worked together to clean Mangkusip River from various waste.
Head of the Karang Taruna Yudi Lesmana said it was a form of concern to the dirty condition of the river which have an impact to the low quality of water.
"We clean various garbage, such as twigs, scatted in the river," he said.
The action, he pointed out, was to maintain the river and it was expected to motivate the residents of the village and it surrounding to always care for the river as one of the source of life.

The form of care, Yudi pointed out, is by not throwing waste to the river in order to maitain the water quality. Including the call to resident not to defecate randomly (BABS).
"We carry out a persuasive approachment in order people are aware and ashamed to throw garbage to the river," he explained.
The clean-up action was also to realize the Tanta Village to be free of latrine to become ODF by 2020.
Head of Tanta Sub-district Gusti Judid Ihsan Permana came directly to observe the residents action. The same action have done before in the Mangkusip Village, Lukbayur Village, and Padangin Village.

"In the development planning forum (musrenbang) we remind each village to carry out regular river cleaning program," Judid said.
Meanwhile, the district government of Tabalong through Environment Agency support the action by preparing its personnel and garbage truck to help transporting the waste from cleaning the river.
The agency also planted some plants along the riverbank and distributing fish seeds from the Fishery Agency.
