Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Chancellor of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) Sutarto in Banjarmasin said Tuesday (20/11) that most of the land in South Kalimantan is wetlands and almost all of its inhabitants can be said to depend on wetlands.
"Therefore, ULM sets the environment for wetlands as its superior," said the rector of the 4th Wetland National Seminar held by ULM in Banjarmasin.
A total of 161 speakers from various universities and institutions throughout Indonesia participated in this national seminar.
The ULM Chancellor added that the environmental potential of wetlands must continue to be used sustainably, but not arbitrarily.
"The environmental condition of wetlands is an opportunity, but remember that the management of the wetland environment has risks which certainly must be minimized," he explained.
The Chancellor hopes that this seminar can contribute positively to the advancement of science in Indonesia, especially in the field of research based on wetlands and its applied sciences.
The seminar which presented two main speakers namely professor of the University of Indonesia Faculty of Economics Prof. Emil Salim and Professor of Mathematics Education as well as ULM Chancellor Prof. Dr. H Sutarto Hadi was organized by the ULM Research and Community Service Institute at the Aria Barito Hotel Banjarmasin.
