Kotabaru, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) of Kotabaru branch has asked the regional government to improve the welfare of doctors.
Chairman of IDI Kotabaru Muhammad Amin said on Monday that doctors' income in this district is smaller than some other districts in South Kalimantan, even though the geographical conditions and access here were more difficult.
"In neighboring areas, access is easier, it is even higher," he said at a hearing with the DPRD Kotabaru.
This income gap is considered as the cause of the shortage of doctors in the district.
At present there are eight health centers that do not have doctors, while Kotabaru District Hospital has lack of seven general practitioners.
Several times the local government opened vacancies for BLUD and PTT doctors, but there were only a few registrants.
In addition to welfare issues, several issues regarding the condition of doctors in Kotabaru, such as the number of resignations and allowances that are often late paid.
