Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The City Government of Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, through Bumi Makmur Farmers Group in Sungai Ulin Urban Village has successfully harvested 5.7 tons of rice per hectare on 0.25 hectare of land.
Head of Banjarbaru City Food Security, Agriculture and Fisheries Office (DKP3) Abu Yazid Bustami welcomed the success hoping that agriculture in the city to be developed in an integrated manner.
“Hopefully we can collaborate even though on limited land. Besides planting rice, while waiting for land to be tilled or havested, we can raise livestock, such as ducks or other animals,” he said here on Friday.

He stated that this harvest demonstrated the resilience of the city farmers in optimally utilizing limited land, and displayed that agriculture in urban areas can still be a source of prosperity.
The harvest also represented a concrete effort to realize vision and mission of Banjarbaru EMAS (which stands for elegant, advanced, just, and prosperous) specifically in creating equitable prosperity for citizens through food security and self-sufficiency.
A thankgiving ceremony was held in the farmers group's rice field, attended by the Banjarbaru City Legislative Council (DPRD) member Nurkhalis Anshari, Head of DKP3 Abu Yazid Bustami, Head of the Banjarbaru Agricultural Extension Service Unit (UPT BPP) Ichnaton Achmad Karyadi, agricultural extension workers, and farmers.
DPRD member Nurkhalis Anshari expressed his appreciation for the farmers' enthusiasm for remaining productive, despite facing various limitations.
