Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Kotabaru Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) continues to stengthen its commitment to building disaster-resilient village (Destana), that are independent, adaptive, and resilient to face the potential disasters.
Chief Exutive of the agency Hendra Indrayana said disaster education is a crucial step in fostering a culture of disaster awareness in schools.
“Through the HEBAT strategy, we want to optimize role of all parties in building preparedness. Schools are a crucial pillar, because here we can foster the disaster-resilient generation,” he said ini Kotabaru, as reported on Monday.

He said the activity aims to instill awareness from early age to students, teachers, and the community around the school, so they are better prepared to face the potential disasters.
The HEBAT strategy is a colaborative approach based on the pentahelix plus one, involving government, academics, business, media, communities and people.
During the activity, BPBD team provided material on disaster potential in the area of Kelumpang Tengah sub-district, self-evacuation simulations, and formation of disaster-resilient youth cadres within the school community.
The Principal of secondary school SMPN 3 Kelumpang Tengah, Akbar, welcomed the BPBD inisiative.

“We truly bnefited from this activity. Children now know what to do when a disaster strikes, and we are ready to develop disaster-safe education units as part of Destana program,” he said.
The Kotabaru BPBD is committed to continue this program in various schools in Kotabaru District. With multi-parties synery through HEBAT strategy, it is hoped that the community will be more prepared, alert, and resilient in the face of disaster threats.
