Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) are collaborating to bolster religious moderation in higher education.
This cooperation is being realized through the 2024 Religious Moderation Workshop and Seminar, scheduled to be held in Jakarta from July 17 to 19.
Head of the Research, Development, and Training Agency at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Amien Suyitno underlined on Sunday that religious moderation is a mandate of the National Medium-Term Development Plan and requires support from all parties within universities.
According to him, the Ministry of Religious Affairs is working to build a religious moderation ecosystem in universities and to ensure lecturers and academics have a collective awareness of religious moderation.
In this regard, Director General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology at the Ministry Abdul Haris stated that the workshop and seminar are important components of efforts to eradicate three “sins” in the higher education environment: bullying, sexual violence, and intolerance.
"Religious moderation is our effort to emphasize that we are really fighting intolerance," he stressed.
Haris assessed that it is the role of both the public and universities to address the issue of intolerance so that people of all religions can live in harmony and maintain the unity of the Indonesian nation.
Furthermore, the Secretary of the Directorate General of Higher Education Tjitjik Sri Tjahjandarie expressed hope that the event will nurture and showcase good practices related to religious moderation.
"Hopefully, the Religious Moderation Workshop and Seminar can run smoothly and result in recommendations that can inform future ministry policies," she remarked.
