Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government is continuing to encourage the community to participate in actions to mitigate and adapt to climate change, starting from energy efficiency to forest and land fire prevention.
Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar expressed hope that the community at the grass-roots level would avoid forest and land fires to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
"We are building and providing public services in the form of the Climate and Carbon Collaboration and Consultation House (RKKIK) to improve climate change literacy and collaboration between stakeholders," she said in a statement here on Sunday.
Bakar noted that various achievements in climate action are inseparable from the key role of the community that has participated in climate action, both climate change adaptation and mitigation at the grass-roots level.
In 2023, the Climate Village program, which is managed by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, will be transformed into the Community for Climate (ProKlim) program.
According to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the program was transformed to further encourage various stakeholders to carry out climate change mitigation and adaptation at the grass-roots level.
The minister hoped that the program's coverage could be more extensive and open up opportunities for all parties to make wider contributions, such as school communities, campus communities, Islamic boarding school (pesantren) communities, environmental activist communities, and other communities.
The success of negotiations at the global level also plays an important role in the progress of Indonesia's climate action, she said.
Through diplomacy and negotiations, Indonesia is making efforts for climate action at the global level.
"Indonesia's participation and diplomacy through concrete action (leading by example) have provided color and influenced the results of various negotiations on climate change issues," she remarked.
