Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Mayor of Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, Muhammad Aditya Mufti Ariffin stated that the construction of Zero Kilometer Monument has made a new history for Banjarbaru, which has become the capital of the province.
"The Zero Kilometer Monument we have built is a historical moment that marks the geographical central point in the capital city of South Kalimantan," he remarked as he and the City Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda) inaugurated the monument on Jalan A Yani, Banjarbaru, Friday night.
The monument, which was built on an area of 327 square meters, he said, became a symbol of reminder and respect for the history of founding of Banjarbaru, which became administrative city in 1999.
"The monument building with ornament depicting the history of th beginning of Banjarbaru City is expected to be a reminder for younger generation, so that they know its history," he pointed out.

It also a form of gratitude for the services of the initiators of the founding of the city, so he asked all residents to care for it to be well maintained.
In the center of the monument, a plaque was made that read "Wabul Sawi" an acronym from Banjar language "Wani Baidabul Sanggup Menggawi (Dare to intend to dare to do it).
"The true meaning of Wabul Sawi should be deeply embedded the heartstrings of younger generation. This means that what you intended must have the courage to do it what ever the risks," said Aditya.
He also hopes that the zero kilometer monument will become a new icon to attract the interest of visitors to come to Banjarbaru, which is known with a nickname "Kota Idaman" (the Dreaming City).
"The place is close and almost parallel with the two icons of Banjarbaru, Dr Murdjani Field and Minggu Raya, so we hope this Zero Point Monument will become a new icon," said the Mayor.
The inauguration of the monument was attended by the City Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda), the City Regional Secretary Said Abdullah, and head of government agencies (SKPDs) of the Banjarbaru City Government, invitees, and the public.
