Martapura, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Banjar Agriculture, Plantation and Livestock Agency (Distanbunak) found worms in the liver of sacrificial cattle slaughtered on the celebration of Eid al-Adha 1437 Hijri.
The Distanbunak Banjar's veterinarians M Akbar Susanto in Martapura, on Wednesday, said it found seven cows sacrificial positive with liver fluke disease.
"We went straight to slaughtering points, especially cattle, and the results of the internal organs examination, especially the liver is the worm found," he said.
The seven sacrificial cows positive with heartworms were one in a mosque at Jalan Irigasi Sekumpul, one in Musholla Gang Taufik Sekumpul.
Five other cows which alive heartworms found were part of slaughtered animals by the committee at Masjid Al Karomah from 31 cows slaughtered.
"The liver part of the seven cows with worms then are separated immediately, discarded, and destroyed, while the meat remains safe for consumption," he said.
He explained that the direct examination by visiting the point of slaughter of sacrificial animals as part of efforts to prevent people taking parts with liver disease.
He stressed, that the liver which already contains with worm is not allowed to be consumed because it can cause animal diseases transmissible to humans and harmful to health.
He said, Distanbunak is still checking to the point of sacrificial cow slaughter until Wednesday (14/9) because not all sacrificial animals slaughtered on Eid al-Adha, Monday (12/9).
