Rantau, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Tapin District Environment Agency (DLH) is using black soldier fly maggot to reduce organic waste.hich is one of the causes of global warming on earth.
Head of the agency Nordin said the waste management unit in Telaga Padi named Rumah Paripurna (which stands for troops decomposing organic waste for prosperity and empowerment) is targeted to reduce 80 tons organic waste per day.
"Organic waste is a potential source of methane gas. Methani gas is one of the greenhouse gases (GRK) that can cause greenhouse effect, as a cause of global warming," he said.
Tapin produces 80 tons of organic waste per day, based on the Tapin's population of around 200 thousand people.
"We will provide education and special bins for organic wate in each house," he said.
For the organic waste reduction efficiency, the agency will visit each house and pick up the organic waste.
"Maggot is very eager to eat organic waste," he said.

In addition to having an impact on th environment, he said, maggots also have economic value because they are rich in protein.
"They can be used for animal feed, such as poultry or fish," he said.
Tapin Environment Agency, he said, also opens the door to cooperation with people who want to cultivate maggot.
"While we are from the environment side, and if people want to open a maggot cultivation business, please come to the office," he said.
