Banjarmasin (ANTARA) - The Provincial Government of South Kalimantan organizes Martapura River waste clean-up jamboree at the peak of National Waste Care Day (HPSN) 2023.
"The Martapura river trash clean-up jamboree will be held at 20 locations simultaneously," said Head of the South Kalimantan Environment Affairs Agency Hanifah Dwi Nirwana in Banjarmasin, Sunday.
HPSN is actually on February 21, but the provincial government will take action on February 24, 2023 by involving all levels of society to clean up the environment and river.
According to Hanifah, HPSN is an important momentum to remind that waste problem is still a strategic issue that cannot be resolved properly.
"Looking back the events behind the HPSN, when waste was not managed properly could cause fatalities. Hopefully this commemoration in South Kalimantan will build public awareness to care about waste," she said.
The Environment Affairs Office itself has started the activities on February 15 through socialization at pilot locations of the Beautiful Martapura River program, which has 12 waste management loci.
At the peak of the HPSN, said Hanifah, there will be an MoU at Teluk Kelayan Park between the waste banks and the Martapura Asri waste bank, tree planting action, handing over of the floating clusters, as well as MoU between the agency and the Bank Kalsel.
She said social media is an important tool for socialization, because of that her party carries out a challenge to young people or people who are active on social media so they understand the importance of managing waste.
"We are holding a challenge to collect photos or videos with a duration of three minutes depicting activities at Martapura Asri as well as a challenge for young people who care about waste or the environment by making quotes related to HPSN. At least there will be awareness and concern about waste," she said.
