Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Banjarmasin Acting Mayor HM Thamrin said the city still lacklot of medical personnel, particularly physicians, to maximize service at community health centers (puskesmas), the only health facilities owned by local governments.
"We need many doctors, because the only that we can maximize now is the community health centers services then we should be working on," he said at City Hall, Friday.
According to Thamrin, there are two options to address the shortage of medical personnel. The first is trying to apply to the Ministry of Administrative Reform.
The second option, he added, is recruitment of contract workers allowed by regulation of the Minister of Health, if there has been no appointment of medical personnel from the country.
"The second option is forced to do now and this is supported by local budget (APBD) each year," said Thamrin.
Head of Banjarmasin Health Agency Diah R Praswati acknowledged many health service facilities belonging to local government, especially puskesmas, still understaffed.
She mentioned the city still has a shortage of 42 doctors. It need 100 new doctors, but only 58 doctors available.
"It is important continually propagated, because of their preparation to serve in city government-owned hospital being built Sultan Suriansyah General Hospital," he said.
Other medical personnel needed are 13 dentists, 36 nurses, six dental nurse, 47 midwife, 10 nutrisis and seven pharmacist.
