Kandangan, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - During the commemoration of International Anti-narcotics Day (HANI) 2021, South Hulu Sungai (HSS) Deputy Regent Syamsuri Arsyad emphasized the importance of the role of parents in drug prevention efforts among teenagers.
He said the role of parents is needed in supervising teenagers in the family environment.
"Parents' emotional approach to children is an important point in efforts to prevent drugs in the millennial generation. Good communication can create a sense of comfort and security for children," he said in Kandangan, Saturday (26/6).
He reminded them not to leave the children's development solely to school, because their time and emotional closeness at school is very limited, while the most important thing is the role of parents.
The sensitivity of parents to changes in children's behavior is also important in anticipating the early symptoms of drug abuse, both at home and in the community.
"If there are children gathering we need to look and find out what they are doing. After all, people who use drugs can be seen from their signs and behavior," he said.
If later there are family members who consume drugs, parents and the community should never be afraid to report, so that the person concerned immediately get treatment, both coaching, and rehabilitation.
He also reminded that children who fall into drugs are victims, so never be hostile to them. It, therefore, needs an emotional approach to foster them.
