Head of the North Hulu Sungai (HSU) Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) Secretariat Muhammad Rafiq said that for the last two years HSU was safe from inflation.
"If there was a fluctuation in the price of particular food commodities, the TPID immediately communicated and coordinated with the province to stabilize the price," said Rafiq in Amuntai, Thursday.
He said that inflation in the form of a price surge of food was caused by several factors, such as harvest failure, disaster, distribution constraints, and food hoarding.
Food commodities reported to often cause inflation in HSU, including shallots, garlic, leeks, and chicken.
"Actually chicken are also raised in HSU, but sometimes the production was not enough," said Rafiq.
However, related to the surge in 3 kg LPG price, Rafiq admitted, TPID could not do anything to handle the 'crooked' retailers, because there were directly under PT Pertamina.
During the last three years, in every meeting with Pertamina, Rafiq admitted that he always suggested that each village provided with 3 kg LPG sale agent to prioritize the sale for their respective villages.
