Banjarmasin, S Kalimatan (ANTARA) - Director General of Human Settlement of Public Works Ministry Dr Dewi Chomistriana reviewed the handling of waste emergency in Banjarmasin City, South Kalimantan.
Dewi reviewed the Basirih final waste processing site (TPAS) in South Banjarmasin, which has been closed by the Ministry of Environment since February 1, 2025 and caused the city in the state of emergency waste.
She and the entourage visited several zones in Basirih landfill, including the leachate pond area. She directly monitored condition in the field and waste management system applied at the location.

Dewi gave notes and directions related to optimizing waste management, and suggested the importance of implementing environmentally friendly technology and increasing management capacity at Basirih final disposal and waste-reducing, reusing, and recycling sites (TPS 3R).
"This place (TPAS Basirih) is still closed for disposal, but we recommend converting it into waste sorting place," she said.
She recommended Banjarmasin City to emulate other regions that are considered to have succeeded in sorting waste from the source.
If this successfully maximized, she said, it will be able to reduce half or 50 percent of the amount of waste to dump to the final waste disposal.
"Then it is processed in TPAS, these efforts should be carried out by the community. The city government does not remain silent, it must makes various efforts," she pointed out.
"We at the Ministry of Public works will also technically contribute as supervisor, according to our greatest efforts, and certainly not only Public Works Ministry, we collaborate with Environment Ministry, and we have also formed a team to measure the risk index," she said.
The Human Settlement Director General, who was accompanied by Mayor H Muhammad Yamin and Deputy Mayor Hj Ananda, also reviewed TPS-3R in the city, one of which was TPS-3R Tanjung Pagar.
