Kotabaru, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The District Government of Kotabaru together with the district police (Polres) carried out planting of 2.500 rumpun Vetiver grass as an effort to avoid erotion and landslide at the tourism area of Mamake Mount, Wedneday (Feb 26, 2020).
The 104 Kotabaru Military Commander (Dandim), the Kotabaru Naval Base Commander (Danlanal), and a number of vertical officials also took part in the environmental action.
Regent of Kotabaru H Sayed Jafar in his remark appreciated this joint action as a form of preserving the environment.
"Thank you Kotabaru Police Chief and the rank for organizing this activity," he said.
The regent also advised to always together protect the environment by conducting greening and preserving nature, especially objects of tourism in Kotabaru.
"Let us together care and maintain this Vetiver grass. If suitable later the local government will also plant this grass," Sayed said.
Meanwhile, Kotabaru Police Chief Adj Sr Comr (AKBP) Andi Adnan Syafrudddin said in his speech that forest is a source of life, and holding the activity is an order of the central government.
"Some time ago, Mr (President) Jokowi planted Vetiver grass in Bogor in order to reduce the risk of erosion and landslide," he said while explaining that he brought the Vetiver grass seeds directly from Bogor.
The police chief hoped that his grass will be useful to reduce or even to prevent erosion and landslide in the Mamake, as well as benefit for the community.
The Regional Secretary of Kotabaru, Kotabaru DPRD speaker, heads of government agencies, Pulau Laut Sigam Sub-district head, staff of Kotabaru Police, community feagures and invitees.
