Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The South Kalimantan Regional Police (Polda Kalsel) recorded a decrease in the number of criminal acts during 2019 compared to 2018, so the region was considered to be relatively more conducive throughout the year.
South Kalimantan Police Chief Inspector General Yazid Fanani said, during 2019 there were 6,023 criminal cases or down 399 cases compared to 2018 which recorded 6,422 cases.
"The prominent conventional crime cases such as theft with violence, motor vehicle theft (curanmor) to the misuse of sharp weapons were down, thus making the security and order situation more conducive," said the Regional Police Chief during a year-end press-conference at the South Kalimantan Police Headquarters, Monday (Dec 30, 2019).

However, special criminal acts during 2019 actually experienced a significant increase. 419 cases occurred in 2019 or increased by 98 cases or 30.5%, while in 2018 only 321 cases.
The highest oil and gas criminal offenses, namely 132 cases, followed by 40 cases of forest and land fire, and 38 cases of illegal mining and consumer protection.
Then transnational drug crime trend also dropped, namely 1,858 cases in 2019 compared to 1,987 last year.
"Specifically for drugs, I really emphasize the strengthening of prevention efforts. Including encouraging the maximum rehabilitation program for addicts to recover. Noted during 2019 there were 46 people who were arrested undergoing rehabilitation because only as users not dealers," explained Yazid accompanied by Deputy Police Chief Inspector General Aneka Pristafuddin and Irwasda (the regional monitoring inspectorate) Sr Comr Djoko Poerbohadijojo.
On the other hand, the concern of the police chief in 2019 was the increase in traffic accidents with fatal casualties. So far this year, there were 523 cases and 334 people died.
