Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - River Management Agency (BWS) II formed river-care communities not only in the Thousand Rivers City of Banjarmasin, but across South Kalimantan.
Head of BWS II Dwi Purwantoro stated when opening a community empowerment program to care about rivers in South Kalimantan in collaboration with the Forum Komunitas Hijau (FKH) at the Barito Hotel on Wednesday.
According to Dwi Purwantoro, the rivers in Indonesia, including in South Kalimantan, is in poor condition, due to pollution from household, industrial, and natural waste.
In addition, many rivers are shallow and dead, even though the river is the lifeblood of life, therefore the participation of the community is needed to maintain the river.
Seeing this fact, the BWS wants to create communities that cares about the river, so that the rivers are maintained and can be good again.
The two-day event presented three resource persons, namely Drs Hamdi with the topic "creating the most beautiful Banjarmasin river city in Indonesia."
Another resource person, Hasan Zainuddin or Uncle Anum on the topic "Creating the role of the community to create Banjarmasin as the most beautiful river city," and Drs Muhammad Ary on the topic "the role of the river caring community increases people's participation in preserving water resources."
While the participants were from the community groups, Mapala (Student Nature Lovers), the cleaning task force in South Kalimantan with 40 participants.
In addition, the activity continued on the second day by river cruising to see the true condition of the river in Banjarmasin.
